1017 - Coat of Arms Bridge The sandstone faced bridge carries the Coventry to Leamington railway line over Coat of Arms Bridge Road. It was built in 1842, when the then lord of the manor sold the land to the railway company on condition the arms of the Gregory family were incorporated into the structure.

This, together with Kenilworth Road, was a very popular route in the early days of cycling. So much so that Singer & Co. used the bridge as a backdrop to their advertisement for cycles in 1886 http://bit.ly/MLXx2n

1016 - Home of the Olympic Torch (UK version) The Premier Group in Coventry are making 8,000 torches, one for each Torchbearer during the 70-day Torch Relay around the UK. As we are going into Coventry later to see the Olympic Torch, we should go and see where it was made. It is made about a mile from our house after all!

Add to that almost 4,000 extra torches for Olympics sponsors and the factory is flat out making the 80cm triangular golden torches.
More than 100 are coming off the production line each day. http://bit.ly/OGwTs1

The Elephant and Castle When Googling for info, I came across two sites that actually sell these for over £200 goo.gl/jktJ2

Why does Coventry have an elephant and castle on our coat of arms? There are many suggestions such as the elephant represents strength; the ability to carry a castle on its back. Or the elephant is also associated with ancient legends whereby it killed a dragon while defending its young. http://bit.ly/OEfhgC
